21-25 August - Retreat Week

High School Retreat is this week! The ExCo officers with Etta and Crystal have worked hard to put together a great experience for everyone. Look out for information and travel logistics for Thursday, but your cabin groups, discussion groups, and retreat responsibilities can be found here.

Eligibility checks begin this week. Hopefully you will not have any students in need of a submission, but you should have gotten a reminder from Mars giving the eligibility policy and instructions for submitting eligibility information via Sycamore before Tuesday morning. Beginning this week, you will receive an email every weekend reminding you to submit eligibility information, and and email on Tuesday listing students who are affected that week.

Tuesday we will have odd double blocks. As you talk through your weekly plan with students on Monday, remind them of this.

Thursday schedule:
We have a half day of school before we leave for retreat, but we will not have classes that day. Instead, we will spend time doing some non-academic start-of-year things that we need to get done:
  • 7:10-8:10 - Class Officer Elections; attend if you are advising a class
    • Home Ec: grade 12
    • Drama Room: grade 11
    • Meeting Hall: grade 10
    • Tipunan: grade 9
  • 8:10-8:30 - Explanation of service hours for grade 9 and new students in Tipunan
  • 8:30-10:30 - House meetings to begin planning for Spirit Week; all available HSD staff attend
    • L4: Anastasis
    • Drama Room: Machaira
    • Meeting Hall: Kaio
    • Tipunan: Tharseo
Your house email groups have been updated. House advisors and student house reps have the rights to send emails to the groups, so feel free to use them as you begin to plan for Spirit Week.

In your boxes you should have received new copies of our Vision/Mission and SLR posters. Please display them in your teaching space, office, common area, etc. If you received more than one set, they should have been labeled with where they should be placed. The blue Mission/Vision poster should be more prominent, so it should go either on the left or on top, depending on how you arrange your posters.

If you book Chromebooks, but end up not needing them for your class, please remove the reservations from Google calendar so they are freed up for other classes. At the very least, contact Mars or Rose that you don't need them so they know they are available for others.

I am leaving the articles and resources on using longer teaching periods down in the Teacher Talk section. If you haven't looked through them yet, read through them before our divisional meeting on 29 August.

And remember that Monday, 28 August is a day off. Enjoy the extra day of sleep after retreat :)
