Two weeks down...

posted Aug 7, 2014, 11:24 PM by HSD Principal   [ updated Aug 8, 2014, 12:51 AM ]

Week 2 has flown by! Things are well under way in high school but it’s likely that we’re all still feeling some level of ‘first-day’ stress. Please continue to be gracious with each other and take time to rest this weekend.

Quite a few updates this week…please bear with me.

1. There are two professional development opportunities that are coming up soon:

- Google Apps for Education Summit at ISM on Sept 20 - 21. [The conference will cover areas like Deployment & Management of Google Apps, Google Apps Scripts, Google Apps for Education Certification, Chromebooks in Education, YouTube for Schools, Google Docs, Google Sites, Google Calendar, Gmail power tips.]

- International Christian Educators Conference (ICEC) in Korea on Nov 26-29.

Web site: http://www.acsiglobal.org/home-2/events/icec-asia-2014

Both are great conferences but we can only send a handful of staff. If you are interested in attending either one of these, please send me an email by Monday morning at the latest. Please also fill out and submit the Request for Professional Development Funds form (found under the Forms tab above).

2. Your GOALS document should now be in your individual folders under the Professional Dev’t tab above. Please fill in the areas required in preparation for our goals meeting which should take place within the next two weeks.

3. The set of mobile Chromebooks should be available for high school use from Monday, August 18 to Friday, August 29.  While we wait for the new Chromebooks to arrive (any day hopefully), we will be alternating with middle school in scheduling Chromebooks’ availability -- 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. If you would like to use these mobile devices in your classrooms, please email Tony Book.

4. We have a speech language pathologist at Faith Academy. How awesome is that!  Chelsea Chin, who many of you have met, is with the elementary division but welcomes students from other divisions too.  What exactly does a speech language pathologist do?  Click here to find out.  If you have a high school student you would like to refer to Chelsea, please come see me first.

5. You may have noticed that all our Tuesdays for the year have been earmarked for PLCs, divisional meetings, and all staff sessions. Unfortunately, there was no room to fit department meetings. Please help your department leaders find a mutually acceptable time to meet as a department. Especially for the larger departments this can seem like a daunting task but with everyone cooperating it can be done. Thank you.

A final word about the HSD site...I endeavor to update all the home page blogs and side bar info weekly. Please scroll down this page so you don't miss out! :-)
