Any Number Can Die

posted Nov 19, 2017, 12:02 AM by HSD Principal

I hope you were all able to see the Advanced Drama play this week. It was a fun play - my kids wanted to see it multiple times - and showcased the skills of our students.

Great job, Lori and cast! And also to Dave, Jason, Glen and the rest of the crews who pulled it off.

Self-Directed Learners!

posted Nov 5, 2017, 2:03 AM by HSD Principal

As we are focusing on our SLR for being a Self-Directed Learner this year, it was good to see you all modeling that during our inservice last week. I heard a lot of encouraging feedback about the two days, so thank you for engaging over multiple teaching practices. If you haven't yet, fill out the Learning Fair feedback form Angela sent out.

Run, Kick, Spike!

As most first season sports wind down this week, thanks to all the coaches who have put in the long hours after school and on weekends to help our student athletes develop physically, socially, and spiritually. Your effort is appreciated and it will pay off in students' lives.

Food - Tasty & Plentiful

The delicious lunch during parent teacher conferences was provided by about two dozen different high school parents. Some additional parents gave cash, and that was converted into the Starbucks gift certificates distributed before break.

It's a reminder that we serve with some pretty awesome families who invest in their children's education - by making sure we are well-fed and caffeinated.

It took a team

posted Sep 17, 2017, 1:23 AM by HSD Principal

Thank you to all of you this past week for:
  • helping coach your houses through Spirit Week activities
  • being flexible after classes were called off on Tuesday and we had to change schedules - again - on Wednesday and Thursday
  • cheering on our students as they competed
And another big thank you to the ExCo team for putting everything together. The number and variety of activities was great.

High School Retreat

posted Aug 27, 2017, 4:02 AM by HSD Principal

Huge, huge thanks to Etta, Crystal and the ExCo officers for planning and pulling off High School Retreat last week. You guys are rock stars.

And thanks for all of the ways all of you individually helped make retreat possible. I want to especially thank Dennis for organizing the concert of prayer the second night. That time was really powerful for many students and prompted at least one to make a commitment to Christ. That makes it worth sleeping on thin mattresses for a few nights!

Meet the Teacher

posted Aug 19, 2017, 11:06 PM by HSD Principal

Thank you all for spending an afternoon meeting parents. We've debated the value in the event in recent years, but many parents still appreciate you taking the time to talk about your classes with them.

Hosting the AXIS Team

posted Aug 10, 2017, 4:59 AM by HSD Principal

Thanks to Les and Donna for hosting our AXIS team last week (and thanks to the Ballentynes for staying up late and taking them in that first night when I got their travel date wrong). Also thanks to the Baucks, Clarks, and Taylor & Company for hosting them for meals. They had a great time being here and spending time with all of you and with our students.

Registration Help

posted Aug 5, 2017, 1:27 AM by HSD Principal

A big thank you to all of you who helped during registration this week. I think we may have been done in record time on Monday and Tuesday.

A very big thank you to Jason who volunteered to sit in the office and help students with schedule changes this week.

And a superlatively big thank you to Lori, who not only helped with changes this week, but spent hours over the final weeks of summer handling schedule change requests so the lines would be short on the actual registration days.

"Beginnings & Bearing"

Thank you for all your hard work preparing for, and starting off the school year so well.  Thanks also for your bearing with me as I learn new things and often take a while to answer questions.
